When the Flag Itself Is the Statement
Some flags are meant to fly in the weather. This one is meant to be present at the moments that matter.
Cotton Authentic embroidered construction — the material and method used for flags throughout American history before synthetic fabrics existed — produces a flag with weight, texture, and presence that no nylon or polyester version can replicate. For honor guard display, memorial presentation, museum installation, or any occasion where the flag itself carries ceremonial significance, cotton is the appropriate choice.
The double-sided construction ensures the words read correctly on both faces — nothing backwards, nothing mirrored. Whatever the occasion demands, this flag holds its dignity from every angle.
The Flag That Belongs at Significant Moments
The Gadsden Flag was present at the founding of the United States Navy. Colonel Christopher Gadsden — founder of South Carolina’s Sons of Liberty, Continental Congress delegate, member of the Marine Committee that outfitted the Continental Navy, and eventual Brigadier General who endured nearly a year in solitary confinement at the Spanish fort of San Marcos in St. Augustine rather than abandon the cause — designed it as a personal standard for Commodore Esek Hopkins.
It was first raised on the USS Alfred on January 4, 1776, before the Declaration of Independence, before the Stars and Stripes, before the United States existed as a formal nation. It predates nearly every other American flag tradition by over a year.
A flag with that origin belongs at the kinds of occasions this cotton version is built for — not casual outdoor display, but the moments where history is being honored: memorial services, color guard presentations, museum installations, and ceremonial displays where quality and authenticity are not optional.
Cotton — The Original American Flag Material
Every flag that flew from Continental Navy ships in 1776 was made of natural fiber — cotton, wool, or silk. Synthetic materials didn’t exist. The flags that Gadsden, Hopkins, and John Paul Jones sailed under were heavy woven cloth that moved with real weight and draped with natural gravity.
Cotton Authentic construction is the closest modern equivalent to that tradition. The fabric has the texture, movement, and visual depth of a historical flag rather than a reproduction print. The embroidered design — stitched directly into the cotton weave — gives the rattlesnake and motto a dimensional quality that carries across a room.
For display contexts where people will stand close, see it in detail, and understand what they’re looking at, cotton delivers what printed and even embroidered nylon cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose cotton over nylon for ceremonial display? Cotton has a natural weight, movement, and texture that synthetic materials approximate but cannot replicate. For occasions where the flag is being presented as an object of significance — at a memorial, in a museum, at a color guard ceremony — cotton reads as authentic in a way that nylon simply doesn’t. It’s the material American flags were made from throughout the Revolutionary era.
What does double sided mean on this flag? Two embroidered faces are constructed so the design and words read correctly from both the front and back — not mirrored or reversed on the reverse face. This is distinct from traditional flag construction where the reverse appears mirrored, and makes this version appropriate for display situations where both faces are equally visible.
Is this flag appropriate for military funerals and memorial services? Yes — Cotton Authentic quality is specifically suited for ceremonial and memorial display. The weight, texture, and premium embroidered construction give it the gravity appropriate to those occasions.
Can this flag be displayed outdoors? Cotton is not suitable for outdoor or wet conditions — moisture, UV exposure, and wind stress degrade natural fiber significantly faster than nylon or polyester. This flag is designed for indoor display and protected ceremonial use. For outdoor display, our nylon versions provide the appropriate durability.
Is the 3×5 ft appropriate for color guard use? Yes for stationary color guard and honor guard presentation. Note that heavy cotton may not be ideal for extended marching — for long-duration marching applications, a nylon flag of the same size is the more practical choice.

Washington Headquarters Flag – Outdoor All Weather Super Tough / Heavy Duty Flag

Six pointed Stars
This flag was used to signal the presence of the Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Armies, George Washington. It accompanied him, and was displayed near his personal tent or building. The original is believed to be the earliest surviving 13-star American flag. It is unique due to its 6-pointed stars and it appears that it was designed by Washington himself. Washington wore three silver six-pointed stars, and a blue sash across his chest, indicating his status as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army. Five pointed stars were not used until Betsy Ross changed them to make them easier to embroider.
This flag was also the US Navy Union Jack during the revolutionary war.
