Sons of Liberty Flag
Size: 3×5 feet
The Sons of Liberty groups were organized well before the American Revolutionary War. In response to abuses of the rights of American Colonists, the Sons of Liberty flag was created and used. The stripes of the Sons of Liberty Flags represented the protesting colonies, beginning with those that rose against the infamous Stamp Act passed by the British Parliament in 1765.
Liberty Flags were mentioned more and more in our historical records, as protests grew in the American Colonies before the Revolution. It became tradition to gather under an oak or other distinctive tree on the town green. They erected Liberty Poles which local authorities and Loyalists would attempt to chop down. In one instance, after their Pole had been destroyed for the second time, the local Liberty Boys raised a replacement sheathed in iron. We know of examples of the Liberty Flags flying from New England all the way down to the state of Georgia.
