Grand Union Flag – Continental Colors Flag – Great Union Flag
This was the unofficial American national flag when the Colonies declared independence on July 4th, 1776. It continued to be so until the Continental Congress authorized the Stars and Stripes on 14 June 1777. George Washington called it the “Great Union Flag” in one of his letters, but today we know it best as the “Grand Old Union Flag.” It is also known as the Continental Colors.
We know this flag was first flown by the Continental Navy on ships of the Delaware River, and John Paul Jones wrote that he was the first one to raise it on an American vessel – the Alfred on 3 December 1775.
It was also famously raised on the liberty pole of Prospect Hill, near Washington’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
You can see the design of the flag of Great Britain in the upper left corner. It is worth noting that this is different from the United Kingdom flag of today, which was modified when Northern Ireland joined with Great Britain.

Liberty or Death Punisher Flag / 2nd Amendment 1791 Flag
It reads 2nd Amendment Since 1791 with an American punisher face over the crossed rifles
– This is a nice looking flag.
– Size 3×5
The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution are known as the Bill of Rights. The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The Constitution was approved in its original form without a Bill of Rights. However, the lack of a list of basic rights was objected to by many Americans. In 1787 Thomas Jefferson wrote that “[A] bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular, and what no just government should refuse.”
Several years of debate took place before such a bill was adopted. The Federalists were against a bill of rights, asserting that it was unnecessary. The Anti-Federalists were concerned about too strong a central government, and demanded constitutional guarantees of certain rights that could not be taken away by the Federal government. In the end the popular support for a bill of such rights won the day.
Our American Bill of Rights was inspired by Thomas Jefferson, drafted by James Madison, and ratified by the States in 1791. Once ratified they became part of our Constitution, the highest law of the land.
