The Newport Rifles Company battle flag aka San Jacinto Battle Flag with Gold Markings
The banner draped over the sword reads, “Liberty or Death.” Around Lady Liberty bears a sword and there are gold markings that originally were painted on the historical original piece.
The Newport Rifles Company Flag often called the San Jacinto Battle Flag, was carried during the battle that ensured Texan Independence. It was the banner of the Newport Rifles Company, volunteer troops who fought under the command of General Sidney Sherman, who carried this flag through the battle of San Jacinto. (Sam Houston was in overall command at the battle). The historic original flag was made of silk and adorned with a painting of Lady Liberty. This flag is part of the collection of the State Preservation Board and normally hangs in the Texas State Capitol behind the podium used by the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives when in session.
