This is the flag that was carried by Samuel Bell Maxey during the Civil War. Born on March 30, 1825, in Paris, Texas, Maxey served as a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army. After the war, he transitioned from military service to politics, representing Texas as a U.S. Senator—thus serving his people not on the battlefield with arms, but in the Senate with words.
Additionally, this flag has a unique provenance: it was later discovered at the Elmira prison, where soldiers captured during the battle at Fort Fisher were held captive. Maxey’s legacy spans both his military contributions and his political career, which continued until his passing on August 16, 1895.
He was a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War and later represented Texas in the U.S. Senate.

This is an American made flag of tough, durable and long-lasting nylon fabric, with solid brass grommets. You won’t find nylon flags with higher tensile and tear strength. This flag has excellent strength retention under UV exposure, and high resistance to UV fading. The colors are deeper, brighter and last over time, due to the aniline dyeing process. This fabric has better wash-fastness and light-fastness than nylons of similar fabric construction.
There is a one inch double edge fold with four rows of stitching on the fly edge. It has 1 1/2 inch reinforced stitching vertically at the fly corners, and 3 1/2 inch reinforced hem stitching (horizontal) at top of bottom of the fly.
