Even though there was no historical evidence to suggest that he actually held a military rank, Edgerton Hogg had assumed the title colonel throughout his life. This in particular was one of Cecil County’s great historical mysteries. During his youth in particular Hogg was a pirate for the Confederate Navy. In particular he devised a plan as a sympathizer during the outbreak of the civil war.
- Thomas Hogg was Confederate sympathizer at the start of the Civil War.
- In 1864, Hogg served in the Confederate Army and the Confederate Navy.
- Hogg was capture in October 1864 while boarding a steamer ship in Panama.
“In April 1864, Hogg served in the Confederate Army and soon after was appointed master’s mate in the Confederate Navy. Again, Hogg felt there were more opportunities similar to his previous one.”
