Did you know that Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi honor Confederate General Robert E. Lee with a public holiday on his birthday? Did you also know that his birthday just so happens to be on Martin Luther King Jr. Day? In these three states, Google Maps indicated that store hours and traffic may be affected by the General’s birthday, but left out any mention of Martin Luther King Jr. Social media noticed and the story gained traction on several different platforms. Google issued an apologetic statement to Mashable for any offense it caused, and promised to correct the problem.
