Savannah approves changes to Confederate memorial

The American South has been wrangling in recent years with how to deal with its Confederate history, as public sentiment mounts against the relics of its ugly past. Savannah, Georgia has agreed to take one step to dismantle the public reminder of its citizens’ involvement in the War. The City Council recently moved to transfer some busts of Confederate fighters from a downtown memorial to a war cemetery, joining the remains of the individuals memorialized with the statues.
