Apparently, there is some controversy regarding whether or not the status should be removed because some people find them offensive. The city of New Orleans is currently in the process of removing similar works of art from public places. Richmond’s current position is that it will not remove these artifacts like New Orleans did. The Mayor believes the monuments should stay where they are.
