Freedom Riders back city’s Confederate statue as petition seeks removal

In Ellwood Park, Amarillo, statues commemorating Civil War vets are under scrutiny from a petition on Change.org, stating that it is encouraging unity by asking for removal of one of the figures. The Amarillo Freedom Riders have their own petition, with over 4.000 signatures in favor of saving the statue. The Freedom Riders make a regular food donation to homeless in the park and also clean the statues. They claim that the figures symbolize history, not hate, and as such should remain.
