Destroying monuments buries history

Removing statues and monuments that have long history is insulting for some people. The statues and monuments have meaning and historical value. The author was discussing about all the removals of several monuments in his hometown of Durham. He is saying that there are monuments across the world that may be offensive to some, but they aren’t removed because they have a place in history. He is saying we need to think more broadly about the removal of monuments because it is like removing something from history.
