December 15, 1836: Confederate Spy Emeline Pigott Born In NC

Emeline Jamison Pigott was a spy during the Civil War. Recruited due to feelings toward a Confederate private, she organized fishermen to pass along intel. She also would distract the union soldiers so that her family could carry out relief missions. During the war, she was arrested, and an attempt was made on her life, but after her release, she continued to aid the Confederacy.
