The vote to remove a local Civil War monument dedicated to Robert E. Lee led to controversy among the residents of Charlottesville. Corey Stewart, once a campaign manager to Donald Trump, is now a candidate for governor and has called the vote a fascist move by the city council. This has sparked protests with city residents claiming that all history is important, even the “bad” history like that of the Confederates. Some have requested that the money needed to take down the statue be used for other purposes like feeding the homeless.
