Auction Raises $1200 For Monument Move to West Virginia Independence Hall in Wheeling

Wheeling, West Virginia residents got a unique opportunity to look back into their state’s Civil War history with renowned historian Ed Bearss. A lucky few paid to enjoy a private dinner with Bearss, the former chief historian for the National Parks Service, before he delivered the lecture which was followed by a silent auction. $1,200 dollars was raised from the auction and an unknown amount from the dinner towards the project to relocate the historic Soldiers and Sailors Monument – built in 1883 – from its current location at Wheeling Park to the lawn outside Independence Hall.
