Description
Often called the San Jacinto Battle Flag, this was carried during the battle that ensured Texan Independence. It was the banner of the Newport Rifles Company, volunteer troops who fought under the command of General Sidney Sherman. (Sam Houston was in overall command at the battle). Lady Liberty bears a sword. The banner draped over the sword reads, “Liberty or Death.”
