Confederate Rebel Battle Flag – Artillery
Fully Sewn – Cotton – Square 38″x 38″ with grommets
This is a square Rebel Flag commonly used by artillery batteries during the Civil War. It has embroidered stars. This square design and size is typical of Battle Flags of the Army of Northern Virginia, commanded by Robert E. Lee. It was created after the First Battle of Manassas (Bull Run), where the similarities in the Union and Confederate flags caused confusion on the battlefield. The larger sizes were normally carried by the Infantry, while smaller versions like this one were more typical in cavalry and artillery units.
