21st Mississippi Infantry Flag of Confederate States of America
Size: 3×5 ft.
The 21st participated in a very famous charge of Barksdale’s Mississippi Brigade. The men stood at Gettysburg against the Mississippi brigade commanded by Barksdale. The 21st Mississippi Regiment was part of that brigade. These were the words of Union Colonel Worthen, “I am sure that it was the grandest charge that was ever seen by mortal man… Nothing we could do seemed to confuse or halt Barksdale’s veterans. We federals had five regiments fronting Barksdale’s small brigade. And these were supported by two additional regiments stationed just behind the five… but nothing daunted Barksdale and his men. You just came on, and on, and on, and when you came in gun shot of us, the carnage you inflicted on us boys in blue would be impossible to detail… they are the bravest men I ever met or ever expect to meet.” The men of the 21st Mississippi Infantry stood until the very end. This is the battle flag of the 21st Mississippi Infantry. The 11 stars represent Confederate State of America.
