20th Alabama Battle 51 x 51 Inch Cotton Flag

This is the Battle Flag of the 20th Alabama Infantry Regiment.

Assembled in Montgomery in September 1861, its first operations were in east Tennessee.  Among its battles were Vicksburg and the Battle of Missionary Ridge.

It fought constantly from the Battle of Dalton to Kennesaw and on to Atlanta. After the Battle of Atlanta, the 20th marched with General Hood into Tennessee, fighting at Nashville, Kingston and Bentonville.

Of the original 1100 men with which the Twentieth took the field, only 63 were present at the end of the war.
