Houston mayor pushing to rename Dowling Street, now in Confederate officer’s memory

Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston, Texas is attempting to rename a street called Dowling Street. This street was named after Richard Dowling; he served as a lieutenant in the Confederate Army and was a businessman in Texas after the Civil War. Many protesters have demanded the removal of Confederate monuments and the mayor wants to change the name of the street without the approval of the street residents.
