Adopted 7 April 1992 (to remove Communist symbolism).

The Albanian flag features a unique double eagle design symbolizing the territory of Albania as the crossroads between Eastern and Western cultures.  Albania is often referred to as the "Land of Eagles".

The nickname of this flag is Skanderbeg's flag. Skanderbeg being the national hero of Albania and featured prominently in its history.
