Buy African American Flag

Adopted on August 13, 1920 as the official banner of the African Race in article 39 of the Declaration of Rights of Negro Peoples of the World.

Also called the UNIA flag, Afro-American flag or Black Liberation Flag.  Composed of the pan-African colors, of red, black and green, this flag does not represent any single country. It's colors are used in most of the national flags in Africa.

The red represents the blood shed in the struggle for liberation. The black color represents the Black race and its existence as a nation/group. The green color represents the abundant natural resources of Africa from whence this black "nation" hails.

In the 1960s the flag became a symbol of Black liberation in the United States. This flag is often seen at civil rights rallies, parades commemorating the life of Martin Luther King and other special events.
